Very great

It's almost happening. I'm almost losing control of my blog again, which would mean months (or maybe years) without any post. Maybe it won't happen, though. Last week was quite interesting in many aspects... I went to Express after a while not being there, and we had the inauguration of the outside mural (which I couldn't help create =[). After that I walked around with Mareks and then we came home. Nothing too exciting at work, besides the fact that my team for the next project has been defined. I will be leading almost the same team again, but without Umair, Manjul, and Eugene. This time I will have Neda =]

Friday was a tense day, in which things almost fell apart. For a moment I thought my life was getting another gigantic turn, but things turned out fine and it was all just a big drama. During the weekend I pretty much did laundry and played FF7. Damn Emerald Weapon that can never be defeated so easily. I will still try to level up my limits and materias, but I don't know how much else I can handle. I am already anxious about starting a new game - or maybe finishing something I never finished.

This Tuesday was an interesting day. I went to Express once again, and a guy who sent me a couchsurf request was there to meet people from different cultures. There were some new faces, and the group took on a hole new perspective of acceptance and respect. I invited everyone out for a coffee, and Douglas (the couchsurfer), Jonathan (a new Jewish guy), and River (new Chinese guy) tagged along. We walked around the village trying to decide on a place, and after finding a few crowded places (bumping into familiar faces on the way), we ended up at good old Second Cup. I got the Tuesday's special for chillers, and I chatted with the guys until Mareks called me. Then I went to Metro to buy some fruits with him and come home to take a rest.

In the end, everything will be well.

Nice week. Fight on Tuesday, then making amends on Wednesday. I didn't go to an exhibit at the AGO that contained my Jane's Walk project, but I went downtown that day and had sushi at Queen and Spadina. On the way back I even saw the ex-teenager Lilian and her wife Zulema. Thursday I played paintball with my coworkers and I realized it actually hurts to be shot. Friday I was falling apart, but even still I walked around.

Saturday was Lilian's birthday celebration, and Mareks thought he couldn't attend. We planned a brunch afternoon to make up for it, so we went to this nice vegan/organic place on Dundas. Despite the microscopic fruit servings, I enjoyed my meal. We walked around for a bit, and chatted at the girls' apartment. Then, we came back home and as we were about to leave for PMRI, we realized Mareks didn't have to go that day. We decided to go to back to Lilian's celebration, so we bought a board game at Value Village and ate at Harveys before heading back.

Once we got there, we found David, Ben, Natalia, and Miles. We played Apples for Apples for some time (boring =[), and then Miles had to drive Natalia up to Markham so she could start her terrible work shift. Mareks got a ride with them, while I stayed playing Taboo with the remaining people and the newly-arrived Raff. We had fun, but only for a short period of time, since David went back to being Cinderella because he doesn't like the blue night line. I took the ttc with him and Ben, and then I got home much earlier than anticipated.

On Sunday my body was still aching from the intense week, but I still walked around since the weather was nice. My neighbour dropped by to ask about my landlord's contractors, and we ended up having a chat for a while. She thought I spoke Arabic, as many people here do, and then she was happy when I said I was from Brazil - I'm privileged not to have such a bad stereotyped background. And that should be it. Too much "then" in this post...

I say YA, you say Y

Then finally I had a nice week, despite some issues here and there. Tuesday I had my vaccine appointment at SHC, and although I was a bit late, Daniel was able to make my arms sore by poking them with sharp needles. He asked me to stay around for 10min to check if I would develop an allergic reaction, so I chatted with the people that were leaving from Express (I didn't make it in time to go there =[). One of these days I went to the bank to say wtf for them charging me annuity fee on my credit card without asking me first, and they once again disappointed me. I also went to H&M one of these days to buy some t-shirts for Mareks.

In another one of these days (I think Wednesday), I decided to bike to Food Basics even though a thunderstorm was on its way here. I barely hit Huntingwood when it started pouring over my head. I waited at the bus stop for 10min (which is exactly what my Hungarian neighbour asked me to wait in the first place), and then I finished my trip. As I was getting my card ready to swipe and pay, the electricity of the terminal I was in went off (only on that terminal, lol). I waited until the system rebooted and then I had to wait for Mareks and for the rain o stop. We decided to eat sushi in the mean time, and when we finished it wasn't even drizzling anymore.

I worked from home on Thursday, but that wasn't any easier than the days I go to the office. It's hard to define clear times to start, have lunch, and finish. On Friday I had tickets to this youth award dinner, that this time happened in the 519. I wish it was still at Bright Pearl, so that I could see the nice server again serving her vegetables, vegetables. I saw an incredible number of people I know there, and Alvaro and Javier even got awards! The ceremony took a little longer than planned, so after we left we had to come back home right away.

Saturday we had the annual YAY family picnic, and it was nice to finally see Anthony again after such a long time. Beatrise was there too, with her whole family, and we had some fun despite the fear that another thunderstorm would pour over our heads. In the end it didn't, so we left with some nice prizes and our clothes still dry. Janis drove us to Hong Tai, and Mareks and I took a look at the digital camera place before coming home.

Palpite

So Saturday was raining the whole day and we decided not to go anywhere. Actually we went to the supermarket, but that doesn't count. In the evening we watched a movie, and that was pretty much it.

On Sunday it was nice, on the other hand. We finished laundry really quick and took the TTC down to the Woodbine Beaches. We walked around for a very long time, and the damn sunglasses we had bought at Zellers didn't have UV protection, so we fried our brains while doing that. To come back home, we used a new way taking the Queen streetcat all the way to the east end, and then walking to Victoria Park and Danforth. When our legs couldn't stand still anymore, we called the day off.

Today the contractors got back to working on our backyard, finally. I had work, which was dis-motivating as usual, and then when I got home I waited for Mareks to congratulate him on his new G2 driver's license. We went to Fairview Mall to buy some t-shirts, and now we're back home chilling out.

What lips my lips have kissed, and where, and why

Enough ranting about work. Last week wasn't very exciting. I had a few meetings at TLC on Tuesday, and I was surprised to see Phil there when I was walking to one of them. Friday we had a "show and tell" presentation in the office for Vincent and some BAs, but that didn't go too well, apparently. After that my whole team went for lunch together at Maison du Japon, and the company paid for our all-you-can-eat sushi.

Friday evening I also went to Diana's place to meet Mareks and then go with him and Sabine downtown to walk around. We decided to watch a movie with our free tickets, and we also ate at the nutritive juice place on Yonge (to which I will not come back anytime soon). We watched Bang Bang Club, which turned out to be much better than its title.

Not much else to report on this lousy week. I am so waiting for July 25...

Labrit tauta

Nothing on Thursday, except a quick visit to Diana to give her back the umbrella we borrowed on Wednesday. Friday I woke up earlier to go have this English proficiency exam at Ryerson, and just because I got there at 8:30 the exam didn't start until almost 10. To make it worse, everybody had to go section by section together, which didn't allow me to finish before I had planned to. A little past 11, when we were almost about to start the essay part, the fire alarm starts going off, and despite my secret prayers for it to stop, we had to leave the building. It took some time for the firefighters to come and clear the problem, and because of that I only finished the exam past 13h. I went to Pizza Pizza to grab something quick to eat, and then I rushed to the office as my coworkers were hyper anxious to talk to me. When I sat at my desk and saw the list of 50 emails to go through, I realized that day would be fun. Obviously more than 2/3 of those emails were useless stuff from Richard, but I managed to do everything before little past 17h. I came home to quickly drop some stuff and then I took the TTC to the village to watch Julian's performance. I didn't even know it was for a Breakthrough event until I got there, so I said hi to Scott and to Natalia who was DJ'ing. Some other performances were cool, but Julian was just awesome - I never expected her to do so well on her first time.

Mareks joined me after he was done talking with his new translator, and we went for sushi while my friends watched the rest of the cabaret show at the 519. We came back when we were done, and people were just leaving (good timing). We walked down Church street looking for a place to hang out, but everything looked crowded. We tried Starbucks, Timothys, Old Ladies (that now ask for two pieces of government-issued photo ID for you to get in), and the guys almost ended up at McDonalds. I convinced them to sit at College Park instead, and so they did. I couldn't stay for long, so after buying some stuff at Metro, I waved goodbye to all of them. Back home via TTC, I still had to do some work via VPN... I finished past midnight, so all I wanted to do was sleep after that.

A little problem made the Saturday morning a bit bitter, but things got better in the afternoon. I took Mareks to PMRI, and on the way back I got the photos we printed at Wal Mart, and bought some things at No Frills. I made this stupid decision of buying an extra large vegan pizza at Pizza Pizza, and that's all I ate this whole weekend. I wish I had done something different. but I was stuck at home playing games, watching series and doing laundry. I realize my life feels quite empty when Mareks is not at home, but that's a choice I am ok making. Unlike Samantha Strange, I invest in something that I know is real.

Making work for the sake of making work.

Working overtime sucks. But what can I do? Sunday after posting I actually did go somewhere else with Mareks. I invited Zu, Lilian, and David to go eat something, but only David could go. Mareks and I walked around Finch station remembering the year before while David got ready, and then we went to this nice place that luckily was open until 23:30. We were the last customers to leave, but the servers still treated us nicely. The day after was Victoria Day, so Mareks and I slept in until almost noon. After that we went to Fairview Mall just to realize it was closed. Then we took the TTC to Bayview and Eglinton, where we walked around and bought bread at the other Cob's.

When it started getting cold we went all the way to the Eaton Centre so we could buy Rauf's gift and some things for ourselves. I almost crashed the house's stock market, but everything is still under control. Sometime in the afternoon, after walking around the City Hall, I contacted Rauf to meet him somewhere, and after two random encounters (one with Suhail, the other with Richard) I met him and his friend Alexey. I gave him his gift, and then he went to the cinema while Mareks and I took the TTC back home. A thunderstorm started in Toronto, out of nowhere, but luckily we got home before we were soaked.

Tuesday everything went back to normal at work, but unfortunately I and some other members of my team will have to work overtime this week. After work I came home and after avoiding obstacles on my backyard left out by the interesting contract workers, I could finally rest. I vpn'd for a while, but eventually got tired and went to bed. Today it was almost the same story at work, but after coming home I had to go to Diana's place to meet Mareks and have some delayed birthday cheesecake. We ate and talked about some stuff, and then Mareks and I came back home under this other unpredicted heavy rain. Now I have to work again until sabe-se-la what time.

SeeYa,
Feliploko; or boss.

Life after debt

A mixture of ups and downs composed these past four days. And although I am sure of what I want for now, my feelings confuse me when I think of the future. It is the same old defense mechanism that distanced me from other people before, so it's a matter of feeling safe or feeling happy once more.

Thursday I went o work, but the servers were still down. I tried to copy the data locally on my client's box, but I simply couldn't. While most of my team just laid back and played games, I worked on some material to present on Friday's meeting at TLC. I managed to finish it before 5pm, so for once I left work on time. I met Mareks at Finch and VP, and our plan was to go downtown to meet Sabine and Diana at a modeling agency. When we were at Finch station, however, Diana called saying she could not start her car. We took the 36 to her place, and as soon as we got there, the car started working again. By that time they had given up going, so we just said bye to everyone and left to go get some dinner. I browsed TVA's updated directory and found this interesting restaurant at Eglinton and Bathurst. Mareks and I went there, and it was a simple, clean place. We ate a lot, since their portions are so small, and I even took home a vegan cheesecake. After that we walked around a very nice Jewish neighbourhood in that area, admiring the expensive-looking houses. We ended up at Yonge and something, so we just took the 97 and then the 39 back home.

Friday I had another UAT meeting at TLC, and since I was afraid to be too casual, I wore my regular weekday attire. It was surprising to see my clients in jeans and polo shirts when I got there, but that wasn't such a big deal. This time I drove the meeting from the very beginning, and combining the presentation I put together with my newly acquired insurance knowledge, the TLC staff was once more perplexed with my abilities. I surprisingly (or luckily) finished 5min before the estimated time, so for the rest of the day I heard the project managers thanking me and congratulating me for the "good job". Richard and I drove back to the office, stopping by at Subway to get some sandwiches (that he paid for again). I watched some weird anime with Andrew and Vince, and then I got back to working like crazy since the servers were up. My team is so dependent on me that it's not even funny. I barely sit down at my desk to do the stuff I'm supposed to (which is quite a lot, actually). I left the office on time again, and I didn't even stop at home because I was late to meet Minoo. Mareks joined me at the bus stop, and we got to Eglinton station a few minutes after 6pm. Minoo was waiting in front of the cinema, so while Mareks and she went upstairs to get snacks, I went down to Freshii to buy me something a little more satiating. Back to the cinema room, we watched the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie in 3D. I enjoyed it, since it combines some fantasy elements that I appreciate. After the movie the three of us walked around until we found a nice sushi place to go in. We ate a bit, and then Mareks and I dropped Minoo home before coming to our own place.

Then Saturday I didn't have bread for breakfast =[ So after showering I had this idea to go eat at Cora's. There's one close to Scarborough Town Centre, so Mareks and I took the bus to go there in the morning. It was quite crowded, but it didn't take too long to wait in line and get a table. We both gave up veganism for a day so we could taste this delicious Eggs Ben et Dictine which is in fact in most Cora posters out there on the subway. After eating we decided to walk a bit, since it was such a nice day outside, and then we thought about going to Unionville. Google Maps told me weird routes that I tried to follow, but once I got to Kennedy and Steeles I didn't know what to do anymore. I just gave up he idea and started walking around Pacific Mall. We tried to find something interesting to buy for Mareks' birthday, but their way of selling things is just not trustworthy... We got the bus back to the shops at Finch and Warden, and there we bought a Nexus S phone to try it out for 2 weeks. I think Mareks likes it, so I should have really sticked to the plan of surprising him on his birthday morning. We took a rest at home in the afternoon, and then in the evening we left again. We tried to go to Fairview Mall to buy something, but everything was closed at 8pm. We then went downtown without a gift for Rauf, but I still dropped by at his place to give him a hug. Edward and Rusty were there with him, so I said hi and bye to them since I couldn't stay long. Mareks and I started walking through the crowded streets of Little Italy until we found a good restaurant to eat (guess what? Sushi again, of course). Then after that we walked to University, and took the TTC the rest of the way home.

Today the day started nice, then it got tense, and then somewhere in Greektown it got better. Mareks and I went to this vegan restaurant who happens to be right across the street from Toronto's Jail. We ate some interesting entrées there, and I even had vegan banana split for dessert. After eating we walked around old Chinatown until we landed at the Gerrard Mall. We bought sunglasses at Zellers, and browsed some other windows before we got tired and went back to the street. We walked some more, but then we remembered we had laundry to finish. We took the TTC back home, but on the way we stopped at Hong Tai to buy some groceries. Perhaps the day doesn't end here, but the post is already too big to add what can potentially happen in the evening.

On a go forward basis

These past couple of days have been tough, still, but slightly more under control. On Tuesday morning Mareks and I reestablished a conversation via text message that became a phone call that became a get together. I got a taxi to pick him up at Diana's place, and we came back home. It is very hard for me to withstand all the pain he's going through, knowing that I have no decent reason for having caused that pain. It is really just because I'm an asshole and do not realize the consequences of the shit that I do or think about doing.

But reflecting a bit on it, I dig a little deeper into my hard shell and remember an old vice of mine. It's called self-sabotage. It's when out of nowhere I freak out and get some certainty that nothing that I really have is something I deserve. When that happens I start to implode and destroy everything I managed to accomplish. The classic scenario that I can remember is the empire of Hanna Morris. But again in that situation it could be that I was simply unfaithful... Anyway, there is a possibility it's actually deeper than that, and my fears simply disguise the real problem as ill-intention and wrongdoing.

I took that Tuesday off work to try to make it up to Mareks, but there wasn't much I could do. I took him out for sushi, then I made him tea, massaged his feet, and prepared a hot bath. That at least helped him get some sleep (passion fruit juice and a sleeping pill affected that too), which was something he really needed. I did some work stuff via vpn later at night, and then went to bed early, trying to fall asleep once more.

Today I couldn't really miss work again, but I stayed home until almost 9:30am, since I was only needed for 10:30. I went straight to TLC, where I had a hot chocolate before finding Richard and going to a meeting room on the 9th floor. This group of people have been meeting with Richard since last Friday, and they wouldn't agree to his demands no matter how hard he tried. It took me 30min to convince them to agree to mine, however. I find that even though many times I am bullshitting when I stand up for my company, the important thing to do is to set your presence. Most of the time people are just wishing somebody would take responsibility for things so that they can fall under your lead and start working. Without having their butt covered, they go nowhere.

After the slightly productive meeting, Richard gave me a ride back to the office, stopping by at Yoko to get us some lunch (and pay for it =P). When we arrived at the office, however, complete chaos was in place because of the death of our primary domain controller. Andrew was arranging the funeral (or resurrection, depending on which metaphor you want to use), while Richard and I dealt with the client. The rest of the team (except Janry) simply put their feet up and started playing Unreal Tournament. I realize I did something similar when I played RO instead of researching more about QA, but I would still take this against them when deciding who to be promoted to my team of leads a few years from now.

After work I had this meeting with Ljubomir from Seneca, who has really changed a lot since we met last time. He's doing his coop at OPG, but he really needs something stable to afford his house, car, and baby on the way. He has an interview with my manager next week, but he got disappointed when I told him our entry-level salary. I hope Brian and he can get to an agreement, because Ljubo is really a great guy to work with, and someone who would really benefit our company (besides, he's a good friend too). I gotta follow up with our recruiter, however, to make sure they also schedule interviews with Neda and David (the latter being the most fun I could get at work). Ljubo and I went for coffee at the closest Second Cup (which is quite far), and then he dropped me home. Now back to my computer, waiting for my work's network to go back up, I wish all the broken pieces of my life get back together. I know it's not easy, but there's no point in going forward if the basic structure is faulty.

SeeYa,
Feliploko, who's refreshing his memory.

Everybody's t-shirt is nice except Javi's

An interesting weekend, I must say. Leaving home on Saturday afternoon, Mareks and I went downtown, but while I headed to Ossington station to meet Rauf, he went to Dundas station to walk around. Our Eurovision afternoon started with a trip to LCBO, where I bought two rockstars. Rauf's roommate friend, Chris, tagged along since he didn't have any other plans for the day. Yasser showed up when we were at the LCBO, and Alex came a little later, with his friends Shin and... Phil (number 52). We also had Chase (Rauf's roommate) and his boyfriend Patrick in the group. We put together two laptops so everyone could watch the so expected final, and Chase made some nachos to bankrupt my cookies. The opening ceremony was interesting, and it didn't really feel like a long time watching all the 25 entries (probably because of people's hilarious comments about some performances). When it finally got down to voting we were biting our nails. I was sad Estonia didn't do well, but at least Azerbaijan won instead of Sweden! =]

After the contest we hung out in the balcony for some time until I convinced everybody to follow me to Grant's game night. We stopped at the LCBO again, and I bought four more rockstars (I loved this heart-destroying thing). I took sleeping beauty to the subway, and shortly after we all hopped on it to take a long journey to Scarborough. The maintenance at Bay station, forcing us to transfer at Museum station, didn't make it easier. When we finally got to Grant's condo, through the rain and the Scarborough earthworms, it was already 9pm. Javi, Julian, Emily, another Alex, and this new girl Helen were there hanging out. Some people started playing risk, so I united the people left out to play some Cheat. Julian won, and after the game we watched the guys playing risk for a bit until we got bored of it. I made pressure for them to give up finishing, and they did. We played a few rounds of mafia afterwards, and then I had a drunk and intense conversation with Chris in the balcony. When we went back inside, some people were already sleeping, so we just chatted a bit more and everybody passed out.

Rauf, Chris, Phill, and this guy David that came out of nowhere disappeared at some point, and I still don't know how they went home (probably a taxi). The quiet people were in the master bedroom, while I, Shin, and the Latvian Alex slept in the other one. I feel weird about that and having slept on the carpet without the air mattresses that I was carrying ever since the morning. When I saw Grant waking up, I went on a mission to wake everybody else up to get ready to leave. We all went to a Tim Hortons around the corner, and Alex told me not to worry about anything. I ate a bagel (with blergh - butter), and some people had coffee. We walked back south on Warden, and the quiet people ended up going back to the condo to hang out, while the three wild crazy people went to take the subway home. My stop was first, so I waved goodbye to Shin and Alex and took the bus the rest of the way up.

Once home, I finally got to see Mareks again, and I wanted to take a shower because I was far beyond expired. Of course, when I needed hot water the most it wasn't working, so I went all the way to the gym to take a proper shower (and obviously a hot tub too). I came back, napped a bit, finished laundry, and now I'm waiting for Mareks to come back from church. I can't say I don't miss these wild crazy nights with some friends, but unfortunately that can't happen so often anymore. I still feel a bit weird about the whole thing, but perhaps the mini nausea is just from the rockstars I drank. We'll see how things go next time we meet.

SeeYa,
Feliploko. What about my sleeve?

Nossa Senhora

This post will not include the Saturday. I'be been meaning to post about the weekdays for a while, but there was always something keeping me from doing that. Anyway, I had an awesome week! Despite the stress at work (although I got an ego boost from my client, lol), I have been in a great mood in the evenings because Eurovision is finally here!

Tuesday I watched the first semi-final live, but when I went downtown to buy bread and meet Rauf to talk about Saturday, he convinced me to re-watch it at his new place. I met his friend Alex there, and it's funny that he speaks Portuguese and I attempt to speak Latvian =P We finished watching the semi-final way past midnight, so when I got home I barely had time to sleep before going to work again.

Thursday I couldn't watch the semi-final live, but once again I went to Rauf's place to watch it with him and Alex. After the disappointing show we listened to old Eurovision hits for the rest of the night, and once more I got home past midnight.

Not much to post besides Eurovision, but it doesn't end here. I'll watch the final live at Rauf's place today, so stay tuned for the news tomorrow =]

SeeYa,
Feliploko; gostoso como um beijo.

Every Ploko has a bike

This weekend was so nice! The weather finally opened up a little bit, so I got a chance to walk downtown with Mareks. On Saturday we went to Diana's place in the morning to try to recruit Sabine to our promenades, but she had school stuff to do. So we left, took the TTC to Queen's Park, and then walked among UofT students to Chinatown. We ate at King's Cafe (a looot of food), and then started walking on Dundas all the way to Dufferin. Then we ended up in Parkdale, in front of my old place, and then we decided to take the Queen streetcar without a certain destination. We went aaall the way to Long Branch, and once there we took the GO Train back downtown =P It was a fun trip. We got some lattes at Second Cup, and then finally came back home via TTC. Once at home I could hardly stand up =P

Sunday we had the Jane's Walk. We went to Yonge and Bloor to meet the guides, and there was a nice crowd there. We started walking down Yonge, east on Wellesley, through the village and finally stopping at Allen Gardens. I'm happy that this project continues year after year at Express, with different participants sharing their stories. After the walk Mareks and I ate sushi at the village and then we came back home. We watched Talented Mr. Ripley again, and then it was time to rest.

SeeYa,
Feliploko, or Buba.

Don't send a monkey to do a bird's job

This will probably get back to the 3-day post routine, so let's get going with it. Wednesday was a pretty normal day, with all the same old stuff at the office. I had to go to PMRI after work, and I almost didn't make it. Fortunately I could do my repeat and get my cheque, and then I met Mareks at Hong Tai for some groceries. We realized that artificial crab meat and artificial caviar are still made of fish (lol), and after getting a bunch of vegetables we came back home. I watched some Rurouni Kenshin, and then went to bed.

Thursday was a nice day. The weather was good, so I started biking again. As usual I had a busy morning at work, and Richard almost made me late for my lunch meeting with David. I biked all the way to 636 Finch East to eat some sushi at Ginza with him. We had nice conversations, and I'm looking forward to seeing him again on Sunday. I went back to work a little late, but at this point I don't really give much more than one piece of shit. I kept working my ass out (not literally, unfortunately), and I was planning to watch movies with Mareks and the girls after work. I left late, however, and everybody agreed it would be better to reschedule the movie night. I came back home through a new biking route (suggested by google) and I think I'll use that one from now on. Mareks and I still went out that night, but we just got as far as Scarborough Centre, where we walked around and he had some sushi while I had a cheesecake and a latte at Second Cup. We then came back home, and that was the end of the day.

Today was a total mess, but with a few nice moments here and there. Once again Richard tired me out at work, and he ruined my plans of going out to eat with my co-workers. I decided to bike to Subway, then, but it was raining heavily (damn weather forecast that predicted light drizzles). So I go to get my sandwich and as soon as I pay and prepare to leave, guess who offers me a ride back? Mr. Richard. I had to refuse for obvious reasons, so I rode my bike back in the rain, almost getting hit by a teenage girl who couldn't see me because of another one blocking her view. I got back at work safe, but soaking wet. I undressed 66% of my attire, and spent the rest of the day on my socks. Oddly enough, very few people noticed (or I should say very few people pointed it out). On my way back home, it was raining once again, so that didn't help much on me getting happier. I got here, took a shower, and was eating some dinner when Mareks started rushing me to go to Fairview Mall meet the girls. We left, got to the cinema just in time, and had a good time watching Rio. After the movie, Mareks decided to play the game in which you have to pick a teddy bear with a claw... We didn't know he had 3 tries, so after he missed the first two, one random south asian kid (probably 5 years old) came from nowhere and used Mareks' credit to play (and win!) The awkwardness made me laugh uncontrollably, but that really annoyed Mareks. He gradually became silent on the way here, and then he expressed his disappointment at my reaction. I really didn't mean to make fun of him, but it didn't come across like that. We'll sort that through soon and everything will be back to normal. For now, that's it.

A penis doesn't make a man

Let me post here before the snowball gets too big and my exponential laziness surpasses the acceptable level to come back here. Obviously life and work have been crazy lately, and quoting Almodovar again, I barely have time to wipe my ass. In this past week and a half my patience with this TLC project (and the people involved on it) has dropped to zero and tried to go below that. Let me recapitulate some events using the usual breakdown of my posts...

Last week I probably did a lot of interesting stuff, but by now I don't remember anything, so I can only talk about a few. Thursday was the day I pressed the "fuck off" button at work, and I told Brian about my frustrations on this project. The two of us had a conversation with Richard, and even though my responsibilities didn't change much, that at least woke Richard up to a few things he's been leaning too much on me. The next day he came to the office and tried to look useful, but still took away half of my lunch hour. That day I was also formally informed of my promotion, and apparently my next pay cheque will finally reflect that. Brian congratulated me in front of my peers, and even Harry and Alex gave me a few words of wisdom.

Also that day I had to go back to PMRI for my last period, and everything went fine until after the snack time... However, when I went to bed and tried to sleep, I started feeling this toothache that gradually took over the world and I couldn't possibly stand it without actively doing something to distract me from it. I tried to resist it for about 3 hours, but since it didn't go away I decided to take that as a sign that I should not be there and I withdrew from the study. Fortunately I dealt with a nice lady who helped me get the paperwork done quick, and she even called a cab for me. When I got to the streets I saw a bus coming, so I ditched the cab and came to Food Basics by bus. I was hoping to find a cab there to pay $10 for the short ride here, but the streets were empty - I had no choice but to walk. I still blamed the walking on Mareks for not answering the phone, but that was just because I was stressed and worried about not hearing back from him.

After the nightmare, my weekend was nice. I went to Ikea to buy things for Zulema's new place, but I ended up buying stuff for myself (as usual). I watched Phone Booth with Mareks at home, and I really enjoyed it =P It's a good thriller that keeps you interested during the whole movie. On Sunday I woke up early to go do my post-study exams at PMRI, and I was sad to hear I wouldn't get my cheque that day. I left, rested a bit at home, and then left to help Zulema move some furniture from this socially awkward lady's house to her new place. I really don't know how to act around people who tell you way too much information about themselves on the first day you meet them. Do I really need to know that she has cancer and her son is gay and she made a movie about it? I don't think so. Anyway, the rest of the weekend I spent watching Rurounin Kenshin (lol) because Coacci posted one of their songs in his Facebook and made me want to watch it.

Then this week began, and the stressful monster called TLC started to bother me again. Yesterday after work I had some time to help Mareks translate some documents, and then I stayed tuned to CBC's election results system to cheer in hope that the Conservatives wouldn't get a majority government. That went in vain, but at least the NDP made a historical shift in Canada's political landscape. I went to bed frustrated at North York and some other suburbs in the GTA that elected Conservative politicians that gave Harper the majority he wanted. Today I went downtown in the morning for my yearly physical, and for the first time I did it with my queer family doctor at Sherbourne. I can't ever say enough times that I love that place and the people that work there. But even though the nurses are great, today I'll call them evil because the shots they gave me for hep A and B made both my arms sore =[ And I still gotta go back twice to get the rest of the immunization.

Anyway, today I could have some lunch with Nate and Grant around Yonge & Sheppard. We had sushi at this nice and inexpensive place, and besides the rainy weather the afternoon experience was quite pleasant. I had to go to work after that to take care of some not so pleasant business, but after that I went to Express and the pleasure came back to my life. We made buttons to give out during the Jane's Walk this Sunday, and I made one for myself with a picture of a Final Fantasy game that I found on a magazine =] We went for coffee afterwards, and this nice girl who went to school with Grant gained my respect when she shared her colour-coded, standardized, non-digital calendar. My name-remembering disability prevents me from talking more about her, but hopefully we will see each other again someday.

That should be it. I hope to see myself back here shortly. Until then, take care.

SeeYa,
Feliploko, who got promoted.

Opa, opa, opa-pa-pa

It's Friday. Friday. Gotta get down. This is freaking awesome. Everyone is looking forward to the weekend. Woo-hoo. Anyway, I finally got a break from work, so I slept until noon. Then I ate breakfast and got ready to go out with Mareks. We decided to take the girls somewhere, so we tried to decide something on the way there. All of my suggestions were rejected, so we ended up just thinking about going to Yorkdale mall. We went to Wilson station, and from there we took the Dufferin bus to stop at Orfus road first. There was this sushi place there that my mom didn't want to try when she was here, so this time we went and ordered a large maki party tray =] After eating we tried to go to the mall, but it was closed, so we just went back to Diana's to drop Beatrise, and then I came home while Mareks and Sabine went downtown. I got my stuff ready and then left for PMRI, where my day finished.

Saturday I was at PMRI, and I played FF7 most of the day. I'm almost finishing, finally! I just need to tougher up and kill Sephiroth now. It will be the 6th Final Fantasy game I finish, after FF5, FF6, FFT, FF9, and FF8. There's nothing else interesting about PMRI, so that's it for Saturday.

Today I woke up, took a shower, followed the exit procedures, and came home. Mareks had left an awesome easter gift for me along with a letter in Portuguese =P I made some coffee to have together with one of the treats he gave me, and then I waited until he showed up so we could get ready to leave. We had prepared an easter bag for Beatrise with chocolate and candies, so we took it with us to Diana's. We had a nice Easter Sunday there, eating good food and playing the game where you try to break the other person's eggs. I'll try to make this the only time of the year when we are allowed to eat dairy and eggs - I'm afraid the vegan police will come after us if it's more than that. We walked and biked to a park nearby that had swings, so we could play and sing there to avoid mosquitoes in the summer. Then we went back and got ready to come home. Once here, we had to finish laundry and I ended up napping for the rest of the day. Now I have to gather energy for another devastating week on my work project... Wish me luck.

SeeYa,
Feliploko; happy easter.

Chau Chuchuco

This is not a fun post. Tuesday I left work early to go to Adam&Eve to buy some chocolate to give my Easter awardees this year. Sad I was when I found out the place closed for good =[ I thought about a plan B, so I went up to Laura Secord. They didn't have dairy-free options, so I couldn't buy anything there. I went to Shoppers to try my luck, but nothings caught my attention. That's when I googled chocolate Toronto and found out there was a Swiss chocolate place at Manulife Centre. I tried going there, but I was 2min too late - they had closed. I checked the next result on google, and it was a place in Cumberland ave. I knew it would be expensive, but it was my last chance. I finally bought two nice baskets there and went to Express afterwards. The group was in the middle of a HEAT workshop, so I waited until the break to give the chocolates to Suhail and Olimpia. =] After the meeting a few of us walked to College Park and we stayed there until about 10pm, when we all headed home.

Wednesday I wanted to leave work early again, but I got caught up with last-minute tasks. I confirmed with Kevin that we would still have time to meet, so I asked Mareks to go buy his chocolate for me (at the same place from Tuesday) and meet me at Wellesley station. We met, and I only had time to give Kevin his basket and chat very quickly with him, and then I had to go eat something with Mareks since we were starving. We went to the Magic Oven, finally. We had a spicy soup that wasn't very good, but our vegan pizza was delicious. We also had dessert, so now I should be ok without that place for another half a year. We took the subway back home, and when we got here it was late enough to finish the day on the internet and then sleep.

Today wasn't much happier at work. I finished late once more, and I obviously didn't have energy to go to gym. Mareks came home a little bit after me, and then we left to buy stuff to take to Diana's on Sunday. We found $5 on a grocery basket =D Now we're back home and I watched another episode of Skins on my computer. Mareks' charger for his computer burnt, so we have to get a new one before his battery dies =P I hope this long weekend will recharge my energy, because right now I'm wasted =/

Feliploko, who never sounds happy when he calls.

Burn it up again

Yusuke please lend me your Leigan... I'll probably shoot myself or two people that I'm currently working with. I've had enough already, I'm about to explode >.> If it weren't for my Marekoso I would be boiling with stress by now.

Saturday I was at PMRI, so there isn't much to report on that (not now that so much time has passed). Sunday I came back home and in the afternoon I went downtown with Mareks for a service at St. Barnabas. I met this interesting couple in which the wife is a hyperactive nurse that shared some unnecessary details with us about her private life, and the husband is a Latvian descendant who works for IBM very close to me. Anita made me eat a lot of delicious things, and I even had to bring home some food. After we got home, Mareks and I still watched this interesting Russian movie I found online (Ya lyublu tebya). Then we went to sleep.

Monday I went back to the office to start another crazy week. I'll skip the details about it here not to lose my cool. When I came back home, I was too tired to go to gym, so I just waited for Mareks to call so we could meet at Food Basics and buy some groceries. We took a cab back home because we bought a lot of stuff, and then after some internet browsing (and Skins watching) we went to bed.

Statement of Work

Thursday was not fun. At all. I had a meeting with my client at the office, and once again they gave us whole new perspectives on what they want us to do. I was only able to go to lunch around 3pm. I biked to Alladin's just around the corner, and I enjoyed some falafel there with fries (lol). Then I went back and we sang happy birthday to Chantelle. I worked a bit more and left after the end of my shift to make sure I delivered everything I had to that day. I went home, chatted with Mareks, and then he left while I stayed home waiting for Rauf to show up. He came around 7pm, and we went for sushi at Aoyama before taking a look at his tax return. As expected, Rauf's taxes were done wrong and he doesn't owe the government any money, but he has to do something about the mistake. While I was having dinner with Rauf, my project manager called asking me for a terribly inconvenient favour: get back to work. It was in my best interest to help, so after letting Rauf at the bus stop, Brian picked me up so I could join Richard and him in writing this document they needed for Friday morning. I was at the office until 3am, which was when my manager decided to take me back home for being so sorry that I had to be there.

I obviously took the morning off on Friday, but my phone still rang twice before I wanted to get off the bed. I later checked my voicemail and one message was from Richard thanking me for the favour and updating me on the rest of the work for the day; the other was my very polite co-worker Johnny blaming me for a problem in his project. I had breakfast, took a shower, and went to the office. When I got off at Sparks avenue, I saw the Kaizmobile going out for lunch, so I joined them. After they got some take-out meat, we went to the office and I started my long work day. I juggled between organizing the schedule for next week, assigning tasks for the day, answering emails and calls, and ultimately finalizing my work permit extension. After so much wait my company finally completed the application for the LMO, so we faxed it today. That allowed me to complete the submission of my extension, just in time before my time here expired. I almost had a heart attack when I thought I confused the dates and that I was expired for two weeks already. Luckily Kaizer drove me home so I could get my work permit and confirm I was still ok. I tried to leave the office early, but I was held there until after 5pm. When I finally left, I came straight to PMRI, stopping only at Pizza Pizza to eat something. Now I should finally have some time to post more interesting things, so let's see what comes out of this weekend.

After Monday and Tuesday, even the week says WTF

So much stress... The days should have more than 24h already. Monday the strong wind broke the fence of my backyard, so I reported that to my landlord and apparently he already had plans to renovate the whole outside portion of the house. Work kept busy as usual, but the week began quite promising as I found out we were supposed to stay home during the Jewish holiday of Passover. My client didn't appreciate that, so after a lot of uncertainty we realized we would work anyway.

Tuesday I went downtown straight from work, and again I bought bread at Cobs. I got to Express and we had this amazing workshop about the tax system in Canada. I learned a lot in the single hour this Uruguayan woman was there, and that awarded me some dollars I didn't know I could get =] After the meeting we went to Second Cup and once more our table rocked.

Wednesday I promised Mareks we would go downtown to the AGO, se we did. We walked around a good part of the gallery, and then we walked to Chinatown to eat at Buddha's. We wandered around Kensington market a little bit, and eventually took the streetcar to College station. After buying some stuff at metro, we came home.

SeeYa,
Feliploko, who's the man in that bike.

Woo, womanizer. You're a womanizer, baby.

Not only this is a four-day post, it's being edited veeery late =[ But anyway, Thursday after work Mareks and I went to Fairview Mall to buy some stuff and watch a movie. We finally used the 2 for 1 movie voucher from Pizza Pizza that I had, and we watched Limitless. It wasn't bad, in fact it was even a little entertaining. We then took some take-out sushi at Takara Bune and came home to eat =] Friday I don't remember going out. I think I biked to gym after work, and then I went to Hong Tai with Mareks.

Saturday we usually go to the pool with the girls, but this time only Sabine came since we want to know if Beatrise is actually allergic to something there. I stopped at Pizza Pizza before going, and then I swam a little bit while Mareks and Sabine worked out. We came back home, changed, and then took the TTC downtown. I got off at Wellesley station while they continued to go to Buddha's. I went to Rauf's place to pick him up, and then we went to eat some crepes since I was a bit hungry again. Around 10pm we met Grant and his friend Alex at Bathurst station, and none of the places we wanted to go were open yet, so we ended up at this Paupers Pub that really sucked. We stayed there until Javi and Marco were about to arrive, then we all met at XO Karaoke. Zulema and Lilian also joined us later, and we had a great time =] We had to leave at 2am, though, because other people had booked the room. We walked around a bit, but then I rushed to catch the blue night bus as I didn't want to take too long to get home. I was lucky with the two other blue lines I had to take, and I ended up getting here quite fast =]

Sunday I woke up in the afternoon and barely had time to do anything because Mareks and I had to go to this concert that we had free tickets for. It was in this beautiful church downtown, but the performer was not that great. He plays the organ very well, but nothing in that repertoire caught my full attention. After that we walked for a while and tried to go to a couple different places to eat, but they were all full =[ We ended up at this cheap sushi place, and after eating we came home.

SeeYa,
Feliploko, who's back.

Daudz laimes Vārda Dienā

Without further comments, Monday I went to the office in the morning hoping I would meet Marc to work on the LMO application, but Brian had told him I would not be there, so he didn't go =[ I used the time to generate some documents my client wanted to see, and then I went to have lunch. Since I was on my way to TLC, I walked from Finch station looking for a place to eat. I was feeling like eating pizza, so I stopped at Pizza Nova and this guy rushed me into choosing the very first onion-less vegetarian option I found -.- It wasn't bad, but I didn't appreciate that. I met my team afterwards, and then started my process of endless hot-chocolate drinking. Not much was done that day, since my laptop only got ready by the time we had to leave. I took the subway home, and once I met Mareks, we took off to go to the gym. The pool was a bit crowded at first, but I waited 10min and then it was ok. I did my usual routine and then Mareks and I came back home. I really should work on a harder routine at the pool, but I feel so exhausted when I actually get to the gym =/ Anyway, we watched The Forgotten that night and then went to bed.

Tuesday my whole team could meet at the office, since our VPN tokens were ready. They are really cool devices that generate random numbers that we use to access our laptops at TLC. We started developing/enhancing test cases, and I was working on the VM server on the side, trying to get reporting services to work (where's Amor when he's most needed? >.<). The day was a partial disaster, but at least I got some stuff accomplished by the end of it. Teddy informed me that he and Marc might need my presence at a career fair next Friday at Seneca, so I'll probably go to that. After work I took the TTC downtown and went to Alex to have my hair cut. Then I bought some bread, and this mean guy threw away a delicious bun just because he tore it in two by accident! I then went to Express, and Grant had this activity going that exhausted us all. Guessing names, what are you doing, and loudest game of all - hopefully the names by themselves will ring a bell when I read it in the future. After the meeting we gathered a large group to once again have our coffee time. We started at Starbucks, but given that we didn't have enough space we moved down to College Park. We planned a karaoke night this next Saturday, so let's see if that happens.

Today is my name's day, so Mareks surprised me (let's say it was a surprise) in the morning with beautiful gifts =] I then had to go to work, and once again work on multiple things. Marc gave me all of the stuff to work on the LMO documents, so I was juggling between that and the TLC project. I got everything done for the LMO, and almost everything ready for finishing TLC tomorrow. I left when I couldn't concentrate anymore, and when I got home there was nothing here =[ I started doing random things online until Mareks showed up coming from teaching Peters and we ate together. We chatted for some time, and then Diana, Bunchka and Krukenaids showed up to give me a hug. They brought a flower and cheesecake =] I helped Kruka sell some chocolate bars around here to help her school "build a beautiful park", and we managed to sell 3 of them (one to my landlord, and two to other neighbours). Then we came home, ate cheesecake, spoke Latvian, and parted and left. Now I'm about to go to bed.

Feliploko, who's riding his bike to work.

Pra que dormir se voce pisca?

Another 3-day post =[

Friday was my first day on-site at TLC. I met my team at the Tim Hortons beside the building (not my call) and then we went up to the 3rd floor where our room was set up. We have access to a really cool lunch area with a pool table and free coffee =P I invited Nate for lunch, since he works not far from there, and he agreed to meet. My cellphone completely lost signal when it was around 12, so I simply walked down and went to Nate's department at the government building. We decided to eat at Spring Rolls, and I chose one of my usuals. I got back to work after dropping Nate off, and my team and I continued breezing until around 3pm, when we all left. I then went to the gym, and after I came home.

Saturday I had a screening at PMRI, and on my way back I solved some things at my dentist before going to Hong Tai with Mareks. I bought goiabada and yakult! =D Then I came home and ate something before the girls (Sabine and Beta) showed up for another Pool Saturday. We left right away, and this time Mareks and Sabine went to the 2nd floor while I stayed in the pool with Krukenaids. We had to leave early, since Mareks and I had plans for the evening. We took the girls to their bus, and then came home to change and leave. We took the TTC downtown, passing in front of places I miss. We were early, so we went to a Portuguese bakery before going to the concert. This was a nice choir to which Mareks got some free tickets. We enjoyed the pieces, and it was nice to be surrounded by a crowd of Latvians - they were there because one of the composers was a Latvian-Canadian. We got home late and night and went to bed.

Today (Sunday) we couldn't sleep in because we once again had plans. We went downtown again, but this time to a real Latvian church. Not the one we've been already, but a Lutheran church this time. We attended the service, and then a donation reception in which Mareks played. The food wasn't that great, but everything was ok - Latvians are good people =] Now we're back home and after having eaten sushi, we will watch a movie on my computer. May the new week begin, now that I'm debt-free ^^

How do you say handsome in Portuguese?

I'm pretty sure posting like this reduces my creativity... =[

Tuesday Express, Rauf and I went for a coffee afterward and his friend joined us. Wednesday I was mad because Mareks went to a concert and I didn't know if I could ask to come or not (lol). Actually I was mad because I tend to feel rejected when I suspect someone lies about knowing me or having any kind of special relationship with me... Anyway, with that sorted out came a Thursday of not much excitement. I came home and started helping Mareks sort some documents and then we went to bed.

It is really weird how things happen in my life. I don't know why many times things don't work the way I imagine (or almost predict), but sometimes things go exactly how I envision them. Variables that I can't really control receive a value of exactly what I thought that should be... Since I don't want to explicitly explain the situation, I'll just leave the hints that relate to the title of the post, hoping that I will always remember everything when I revisit this. So that should be it.

Feliploko, who's a real dragon.

Cheat

Saturday we spent the day with the girls, like last Sunday. They came at 1pm, when Mareks was still rehearsing at the church, so I played cards with them (cheat! =]). We left around 3pm, and Mareks met us at the pool already. Beatrise quickly made friends with a Chinese girl and borrowed her goggles, lol. We stayed until 5pm, and then we went to Food Basics to buy stuff to cook. When we got home, we made veggie hamburgers and then watched some eurovision entries while voting for the best countries - guess what? Azerbaijan won =P Diana came to pick the girls up, and we chatted a little bit before they went home. Then Mareks and I were left to rest.

Sunday was laundry day and we didn't do much else. We went to Fairview Mall to buy shoes, and we ended up buying some t-shirts as well. We ate at Spring Rolls again, and then came back to finish laundry and go to bed.

Today (Monday) was a huge day for me. I was invited to this meeting with my company's new client to talk about the project I'm currently leading. I dressed up a little, choosing a business casual outfit very close to casual, but still quite business formal. Richard picked me at the office and gave me a ride. I felt a little uncomfortable in the office, and also when I got to the client, since everybody else was poorly dressed (and didn't care about it). Alex gave me a lesson about the old city of North York while we were in the waiting room, and then we were taken to the board room. I was in a place full of people twice my age and with much more experience in my field. In the few times I got to talk, I felt like a baby =/ We left the client around 2pm, and Brian gave me a ride back to the office. We were going to stop at Ginza for lunch, but it was closed, so we just went to Subway (I was starving x.x). I then sit together with my team to pass on the information I got from the meeting, and then started putting some stuff together on the wiki. When I got home, I ate and took a nap because I was exhausted. Now I hope I can sleep again at night to get ready for tomorrow.

SeeYa,
Feliploko, bunda.

Knock yourself out

I'm not creative today (as if that's big news). Wednesday after work I skipped gym because when Mareks got home from his clarinet teaching lessons, I helped him study for his English test. Thursday after work I skipped gym because I went downtown to meet Kevin, and when I got home I helped Mareks prepare for his appointment...

Friday I went to work only in the morning, and as I was preparing to leave for lunch, I was introduced to this guy who will coordinate my new project. He's a nice guy, Richard from Poland, but I wish he hadn't shown up so close to lunch time =P As a result our meeting only finished around 1pm, so I had to rush home to meet Mareks and go downtown. I ate some cookies and a slice of pizza before going to Katherine's office, but I was still hungry =[ We were there for more than one and a half hours, but we finally traced a plan to work on now. After that we ate sushi at this very nice place just beside her office. We then walked around and came back home. That's it.

Feliploko, who's watching his mouth.

I need to talk to you

If Almodovar allows me, I'll use his line again and say that no hay tenido tiempo de limparme el culo. I had quite a few interesting things to report about the past three days, let me see if I remember all of them.

Sunday as I was preparing my breakfast, somebody knocked on the door. It was Sabine and Beatrise already - they were coming to go to the pool with Mareks and me later that day. We ate, watched some Pixar short movies, then left for Fairview Mall. We bought some stuff at SportCheck, and then had lunch at Spring Rolls. Around 3pm we went to the gym, and we all got in the pool since it was family hours. The kids enjoyed that so much that they wanna go back next week =P Let's see if that will happen. We left around 5pm, and after leaving Sabine and Beatrise at the bus stop, Mareks and I went to Hong Tai to buy some groceries. Then we came home and rested =]

Monday I had a long day at work, and after that I went downtown with Mareks even though I wasn't feeling very well. We tried to go to Long and McQuade, but it was already closed, so we just walked around. We almost stopped at Nova Era for a coffee, but they didn't have soy milk. We started walking again, but Mareks needed to go to the washroom. I suggested stopping at Starbucks, but once we got there we had a little misunderstanding. That's solved now, so I don't need to detail the issue. We took the streetcar, then the subway, and finally the bus to get home.

Finally on Tuesday I went downtown after work, and before going to Cob's I went to Long and McQuade solve the unfinished business. We had a great session at Express with some people from HEAT, but I couldn't stay downtown after that for a coffee, since I had to come back home to help Mareks with a presentation. We had worked on the template in the morning, so we just had to rehearse how he would present about Just for Laughs. All went well, and after that we went to bed.

Why am I outside?

Highlight of Thursday... Last week I mentioned something about creepy people at the gym. So that afternoon I stopped to think a little bit on my inner demons. I honestly didn't actively go after anything, or maybe I did, but it felt like it was simply a passive acceptance of everything. In Brazil we say that him who shuts up, consents. Somehow I feel like I did more than shut up, so that's what makes me surprised about myself. I wish I studied psychology to be able to relate this behaviour to that of my father's, but I kinda do that without studying it anyway. Now I once again face the odd lack of privacy here, since I know it's not likely that somebody else will read this, but the possibility is out there. I should deviate one day about why I keep my memories public... Maybe something interesting comes out of that. Moving on...

Highlight of Friday... I often feel left out of things because of his paranoias and fears. Many times I forced myself into places he didn't want me to be, and it doesn't always end well. Yesterday I was hoping to sit in a round table with his recently acquired acquaintances, but I was put to wait outside in the cold, not knowing for how long. I lost my patience and left, but later on accepted that everyone has their fobias, and I should give it some time until they can be dealt with. Until then, let my patience be exercised.

There's no highlight for Saturday.... We just went to Diana's place, had some tea while I managed some things, and then got my bike that was kept in her garage. Then we went to the dentist, where I got a filling done and Mareks had a cleaning. Finally we came back home and now I listen to Eurovision songs while Mareks chat with his mother until God knows when... Maybe we'll watch a movie tonight before going to bed.

One Two Seven Three, down the Rockafella Street

Not much to log for these 3 days... Work goes as usual, Tuesday I had express, and today I went to the gym. I also went to Diana's place on Monday to have some tea and chat, and I ended up meeting Beatrise's new mentor. Tuesday after Express I went to have a coffee with Rauf, Julia, and Javi. And also today after gym I helped Diana file her tax =]

And now it's finally Eurovision time. All the songs had been announced, and I'm listening to them every day to choose my favourites. I think my list is pretty solid right now, so I added an overall ranking of Eurovision countries on the sidebar of my blog. If I ever finish my blog 2.0 project I'll make that ranking a little better.

I'm lazy to post more, so let's end it here. I'll be back soon.

I will never say never.

Friday, work, no big deal. After that I went straight to the gym to get done with that sooner and avoid finding the same creepy people from the day before. I swam a bit, used the hot tub, and then stopped at Food Basics on my way back. They were having problems with their phone lines and therefore they were taking only cash, so I had to leave and go to Hong Tai instead. I bought fruits for Mareks, and then came back home. A little bit of Dexter, a little bit of Big Bang Theory, but I didn't really do anything that I wanted to (writing letters and "the book"). After chatting with Mareks on the phone I went to bed.

Saturday was totally planned and executed by Mr. Lindbergs. He came back from PMRI, and after a little nap we had breakfast together. Then we came to the computers and watched random stuff until we decided to eat. We made soup and salad, and it was delicious =] So after that we left to go to Scarborough Town Centre so we could watch... the Justin Bieber movie -.- Mareks wanted to watch it so badly that I couldn't just say no. But it wasn't terrible at all - the only awkward thing was to be the only male adults in the theatre. We walked around the mall a little bit and spent some time inside the evil Wal Mart (we didn't buy anything, though). We left when the mall was closing, and it was about time to go for a return at PMRI. Then we finally headed back home and took some time to rest.

Daylight saving time change used to be a nightmare for people who use alarm on their phones, but now Nokia seemed to finally get it right. It changes on the right day, and when you try to do anything related to time on your phone within 24h of that change, an alert is issued about that. Too bad we didn't take some time to think about PMRI's return schedule though, because we still woke up one hour before the right time due to the time change =[ Mareks left for his return draw, and I headed to the YAY office at Finch station. I was there way too early for the time I thought we were supposed to meet, and obviously I thought of a time that was also earlier than the original gathering time. Anthony and I stood in the cold until one of the staff showed up, almost together with another youth match. We drove to Mississauga, and as we got to Square One I went inside the mall with Anthony to get some cash. When we got back, everybody was ready to get inside Playdium, so we got our wristbands and playcards. I had fun at Playdium, except for the food which is unhealthy and expensive. Anthony and I spent most of the time on DDR and PIU, but we also killed some zombies and played token games. We got about 500 coupons, so Anthony could take some prizes home. The trip back was exhausting - Mississauga bus, subway, and TTC bus to let Anthony at home, and then bus, subway, and another bus for me to get here. My legs are sore from dancing, but I'm glad I played so much - I missed it =] Now let me rest, and be back here next time.

niaga yabe no enohp llec a yub reve t'nod

Nothing interesting to log about these past three days, so let's do something different.

When I first moved to Canada I was lucky to have some contacts through my mother's best friend. This family in the Brazilian community helped get in touch with this lady that could rent a room for me in a very convenient place. This is the beginning of my residence in Canada, at 557 Dovercourt Avenue. For some reason things were not suppose to happen the way we all had planned. The day before I landed here, my host-mom-to-be had some misunderstandings with her boss, and since she was afraid that the problem could escalate, she decided to move out of the city. Lucky her I came to cover her 60-day (or a little less than that) notice, otherwise she would have to pay her rent in full amount without living in her basement apartment. So my first week was awesome, since I had a full furnished apartment for myself and not much to do. If I were bolder, I would've made friends sooner so I could take advantage of that, but I didn't. The second week my host-mom-not-to-be got most of her furniture, and I was left with an old mattress and an old computer. The month that followed I arranged with the landlady to share that apartment with the tenant from the other basement unit, who was also moving out in one month. Those days were not the happiest, since none of us was very skilled in cleaning habits.

Then I managed to find my second residence through Craig's List. It was a furnished room not too far from there in the house of a lovely half-aboriginal family - a mom, two kids, a cat, and a dog. My life at 168 Salem Avenue was also short, but I enjoyed my days playing The Sims at my host-mom computer, and eating homemade cinnamon buns with the whole family. The area was nice, but not very convenient, since I had to depend on a very annoying bus (26 Dupont), or go south on 161 Dovercourt before taking the subway to go north again. I lived there for just "first and last" months, since things changed in my life.

So I moved closer downtown to the Annex, on 276 St George St, Apt 502. It was quite a small unit for two people, but at that point none of us were suffocated by one another. That apartment brings me many interesting memories... A party with Vasil, Ray, Rachel, Nate, and others where I played Canadian party-games for the first time; visits to Rachel apartment for some wine and laughs; dinners on a small table with delicious recipes that somehow worked out fine; the beginning of the end through Rodolfo and the not-so-legal nights at the pubs... It's a shame there's not much of it logged here, but hopefully the best will stay in the back of my mind.

And then the lack of space becomes an issue and we decide to go down to 276 St George St, Apt 106. I spent a really long time at that place, compared to all my other addresses. It wasn't big enough, but we managed to get by. The very first day started very wrong, and that snowball kept growing through the year-and-half that followed. The best moments in that place were (obviously) when I was the only tenant for a period of time (weekend, week, month, and once a whole summer). I started couch surfing using that address, with Alexandria from Australia as a first guest. Then Marc, Pancho, Junior, Ivan, and Sigrid. I had so much fun with my queerosexual friends, and we used that unit to gather before going to the Wreck Room, Church Street, and even Montreal. Those were really fun times. There was the whole issue with Noel cooking me lunch one day, but that was the tip of the iceberg since beneath that was encounters with Pancho, Thiago, and even Scott. In that washroom I took famous pictures, and also burned the lid of my brand new laptop. In that fridge I collected donations from Daily Bread, and in that oven I started to cook vegetarian meals. My last days in that apartment were filled with Mareks' presence, who is in part responsible for taking me out of that nightmare.

That takes us to a shittier place, that at least I could call my own, located at 164 Close Avenue. It was the only place at the only downtown neighbourhood that I could afford, among the options I had (and considering I have at least some standards). It was bright purple, had an everlasting smoke smell, and not everything there worked well. I was lucky to have a nice superintendent who put up an air conditioner for me when the weather became unreasonably hot. I was living in fear of catching bedbugs, and afraid my locks weren't secure enough, but luckily I didn't have to stay there for longer than "first and last". My relationship grew and conflicts took place in that unit, and Zulema and Lilian were the only friends who actually visited me there (except my mentor Kevin). I didn't have internet there, so I used the nearby library for my basic virtual needs. The first month I was working at Ontario Place, and the next I was already decently employed. I started cooking by myself and taking food with me to work, and Mareks made my life in that place feel even good, whereas without him it would be completely pizdec.

And finally I got out of there to come to a much more pleasant place. My unit at 206 Fairglen Avenue is the best I ever had in Canada, and my only complaint is that my landlord bugs me too much about strict rules that he makes about noise and other stuff. Mareks is here with me, and this time there's enough space for two people to live without getting on each other's way. I started having my own furniture here, so I could get rid of everything that was stuck on me from the past. Now I'm building my memories here, but I can already see myself moving out soon to a better place without a rigid landlord living upstairs. This concludes my living summary in my new country - perhaps one day I'll make one about my homes in Brazil. Take care.

He who bathes himself in blood, washes himself in tears.

And then it becomes a pattern. It's not too bad, but I have to watch out otherwise one day there's no return. This weekend the weather was terrible! Starting with Saturday and some heavy rain, right when I had to dress nice to go downtown for Zulema's wedding. Mareks and I met David at Finch station (and accidentally we met Julia too =x), then we bought flowers and took the subway. We ended up arriving at City Hall before the brides, so we walked around looking for the chapels. Zu and Lilian arrived just before we found our way, so we all went together. We were joined by Elly and his husband, as well as Lilian's host parents. The ceremony was sweet, but I definitely want something different for my wedding - preferably not in Toronto if that visit to City Hall is mandatory. After the wedding we went to grab a bite at Java House, but we were served by this terrible waitress who apparently was having the worst day in her menstrual cycle. At least we managed to eat something and leave without too much of a fight because of tipping practices. We all took the streetcar, but Zulema and Lilian got off at Spadina to go shop for something. David stayed with Mareks and me all the way to Finch station, and there we parted and left. Once back home, we did some stuff on the internet until it was time to go to PMRI. We then went and came back, ate dinner and went to bed.

Sunday I would go skiing if my name hadn't been taken out of the list from SOY =[ Mareks and I started doing laundry, and around noon I ate lunch and went to the gym (finally). I swam and used the spa, and as I was walking back I noticed text messages on my phone from the day before - after all I could've gone to the skiing trip if I wanted. Anyway I met Mareks at Food Basics and we bought a lot of heavy groceries that we don't get to buy often. We had to take a cab home because of that, but the ride was only $8. I wanted to go to the MCC that evening, but Mareks had to help his mother file this Latvian census. He finished when it was too late to leave, so we just stayed home and watched Les Invasions Barbares. I love that movie, but Mareks didn't think much of it =/ After the movie we were making the bed when I made a joke that Mareks did not appreciate. He got very mad and it took him almost a full day to stop hating me for that... Sometimes I wish I could just know when exactly I'm touching something sensitive.

This Monday I went to work and helped Mike get the TouchTunes people into the IRAP project. Then I had to leave during lunch to get Mareks at home and go to Seneca at York for an event. Back in 2009 I got into this so-called President Honour's List, but only now they are giving me the certificate for it. I didn't have enough time to eat, so by the time I got to York University and ordered my stir-fry noodles it was time to go. We met Minoo at Seneca, but she couldn't go in with us. She took care of our lunches while we were inside, and as I walked in I realized there were refreshments. I was expecting to see Mary-Margaret Walton there with this Brazilian student of hers that wants to meet me, but she was probably sick or something and couldn't go. The only professors there that I had classes with were Ian Tipson (lol) and Mark Petri (Hudson-style). I got my certificate with a little ceremony, and then went after Minoo. I didn't have appetite for the noodles anymore, so I ended up throwing them away. I stopped by at the bookstore to ask about my T4 since I was there, and I'm glad I did because they had to change my address on file before mailing it out to me. Mareks, Minoo, and I then took the TTC downtown, and then Minoo went to Chinatown while Mareks and I went to Long & McQuade around Ossington station. We bought some tools to repair Peter's clarinet that is with Mareks, and then we walked around. We stopped at the Second Cup next to Access Alliance and had some chatty time. Then we took the TTC all the way back home to finish the day.
